Bienvenido F. Nebres

Father Bienvenido Nebres, S.J., is a Filipino scientist, mathematician, and Jesuit priest whose contributions to education and nation-building have profoundly shaped the Philippines. He earned degrees in Philosophy from Berchmans College and later completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics at Stanford University. His career has been marked by a commitment to transforming science and mathematics education in the country.
As the longest-serving president of Ateneo de Manila University (1993-2011), Fr. Nebres led educational reforms and established the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), benefiting over 400 public schools. He also co-founded the UP-Ateneo-De La Salle PhD consortium, advancing the training of scientists and mathematicians.
In 2011, Fr. Nebres was named a National Scientist, honoring his influence on education and social reform. His legacy of integrity and service continues to inspire, with recent accolades including the Pro Deo et Patria Award in 2023 from the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.
